A recent study from Starling Bank found that 28% of people were targeted by these scams in the past year. Even worse, 46% didn’t even know this type of scam existed! 😲
So, how do you stay ahead of these scams? One of the best strategies is to set up a Safe Word with your loved ones.
A Safe Word is a simple but effective way to verify who you’re really speaking to in case of suspicious calls or messages. It should be:
- ✅ Simple but random
- ✅ Easy to remember
- ✅ Not your password
- ✅ Shared only in person
And if the person can’t tell you the Safe Word? Hang up immediately, don’t engage, and verify their identity through a trusted source.
Remember, scammers create a sense of urgency to pressure you into making quick decisions. Stay calm, take your time, and always verify. 💡
