Snapchat’s My Eyes Only

Snapchat My Eyes Only

If your Teen uses Snapchat, you might think you have a pretty good handle on what they’re sharing. You might even scroll through their Memories from time to time to make sure everything looks okay.

But what if I told you there’s a hidden vault inside Snapchat that allows users to lock away photos and videos with a passcode—completely out of sight?

It’s called My Eyes Only, and many parents don’t even know it exists.

How Does My Eyes Only Work?

Snapchat’s My Eyes Only feature is designed to provide an extra layer of privacy. Once set up, it lets users move Snaps from their Memories into a password-protected folder. Even if someone is casually browsing their Snapchat Memories, anything in My Eyes Only stays hidden unless they enter the passcode.

That means:
🔒 Only the person with the passcode can access it.
If they forget the passcode, even Snapchat can’t recover the photos.
👀 Parents checking Memories won’t see what’s stored in My Eyes Only.

Sounds great for privacy, right? But it also raises concerns.

Why Should Parents Be Aware?

Let’s be real—most teens aren’t using this feature to store homework notes. While some might use it for harmless reasons, others could be hiding other content.

For parents, this is where open conversations become essential.

So consider these steps:

Ask them if they know about My Eyes Only – Approach the conversation with curiosity, not accusation. See what they know and how they use it.

Talk about online safety & responsible sharing – Remind them that anything shared online—even in “private” spaces—can still be screenshotted or leaked.

Encourage trust over secrecy – Instead of focusing on monitoring, focus on building a relationship where they feel comfortable talking to you about what they do online.

How to Check if My Eyes Only is Set Up.  Watch my step by step video

If you want to check whether this feature is being used:
1️⃣ Open Snapchat and swipe up to access Memories.
2️⃣ Look for the My Eyes Only tab.
3️⃣ If it’s already set up, it will ask for a passcode to enter.
4️⃣ If it’s not set up, it will prompt a setup process.

🚨 Important: If you see the passcode screen, that means My Eyes Only is active, and there are hidden Snaps inside.

Final Thoughts

Privacy is important, but so is safety.  The best thing parents can do is stay informed and have ongoing conversations with their Children about their online habits.
