Setting Up Playstation Parental Controls

Hey there! If your household is anything like mine, then the PlayStation 5 (PS5) might just be a member of your tech family.

As exciting as it is, this also brings up the big question – how to ensure that our kiddos are having a safe and age-appropriate gaming experience?

Don’t worry, I’ve got your back! Let’s go through the steps to set up Parental Controls on the PS5. It’s simpler than you might think! 😊

Understanding PS5 Parental Controls

PS5 Parental Controls are a package of features that let us parents keep a watchful eye on our children’s gaming activities. These handy features include:
• playtime restrictions
• age rating limits
• internet browser restrictions
• spending controls.

These features help us make sure our young ones are engaging with suitable games, controlling their playtime, and most importantly, staying safe while interacting online.

Step by Step Guide to Setting Up PS5 Parental Controls

Sony has worked hard to make these controls more intuitive than ever. You can manage these settings directly from your PS5 console. Here’s a quick guide:

#1 Create a Child Account: Begin by creating a child account on your PS5. Go to ‘Settings’, then ‘Family and Parental Controls’, then ‘Family Management’. You can either add an existing account or create a new one for your child.

#2 Set Playtime Restrictions: Once the child’s account is established, it’s time to set playtime restrictions. This feature allows you to limit the amount of time your child can spend on the console each day.

#3 Manage Age Rating Limits: Here you can restrict the games and apps your child can access based on their age rating. This ensures that your child is only engaging with age-appropriate content.

#4 Restrict Internet Browser: If you’d prefer your child not to have access to the internet browser, you can disable it in this step.

#5 Set Spending Controls: Last but not least, watch your wallet and control the spending. To avoid any surprise bills, this feature requires your approval for any purchases made in the PlayStation Store.

The Importance of Parental Controls

Setting up Parental Controls is an essential step in creating a safe and enjoyable gaming environment for our children and teenagers. Remember, these controls are not just about limiting screen time or preventing unplanned purchases – they play a significant role in ensuring our children are interacting with suitable content, managing their time responsibly, and safeguarding their online interactions.

While the tools are great, they can’t replace the discussions we need to have with our kids about safe gaming habits. The controls work best when paired with open, ongoing conversations about digital responsibility. So let’s keep the conversations going!

Safer gaming is happier gaming for our kids – and parents! Remember, if you have any further questions you can always book a 1 to 1 parents session with me. Click here to find out more
